Young Charlatans were an Australian punk and post-punk band whose recordings captured a raw, urgent energy at the tail end of the 1970s. 1978, released in 2026, marks the first ever official release of the band's surviving recordings, offering listeners a long-overdue look at a group that left a meaningful mark on the Melbourne underground scene.
The album brings together demo recordings made in Richmond, Victoria, alongside live material from The Tiger Lounge, painting a vivid picture of the band in their prime. Featuring early versions of tracks like "Shivers" — later made famous by The Boys Next Door — these recordings showcase the band's fierce, stripped-back sound and their place in one of rock history's most fertile regional scenes.
