From All Sides is a landmark 1964 collaboration between West Coast pianist Vince Guaraldi and Brazilian guitarist Bola Sete, representing the second of three albums the two recorded together. Born out of a natural musical kinship, the record draws together Guaraldi's lyrical, cool jazz sensibility and Sete's deep roots in bossa nova and Latin jazz, resulting in a sound that feels both effortless and genuinely distinctive.
The album moves fluidly between Brazilian forms, pop standards, and Guaraldi originals, offering a seamless hybrid of American jazz and bossa nova that never loses its warm, conversational quality. Highlights include a relaxed and inviting take on "The Girl from Ipanema" and the sunny charm of "Ginza Samba," with the interplay between piano and guitar serving as the album's beating heart throughout.
