U is the third album from underscores, the project of 25-year-old Filipina American artist April Harper Grey, released in 2026 on Mom + Pop. The album arrived as one of the most talked-about records of the year, earning widespread critical acclaim and cementing underscores as a singular voice in contemporary electronic and pop music.
Across U, underscores demonstrates a meticulous and inventive approach to pop songwriting — handling vocals, production, engineering, and mixing entirely herself. The result is a record that feels both precisely engineered and deeply personal, blending electropop and electronic dance influences into something that rewards close listening as much as it does pure, visceral enjoyment.
