Tom Verlaine, the Television frontman whose angular, interlocking guitar work helped define New York's post-punk and art-rock scene, stepped out on his own with a run of solo albums beginning in 1979. Souvenir From A Dream: The Tom Verlaine Albums (1979-1984) gathers the early chapter of that solo career, showcasing an artist who was equally at home with taut rock songs and more atmospheric, melodic material.
Verlaine's music is marked by his distinctive, reedy vocals, poetic and often dreamlike lyrics, and guitar playing that is fluid, intricate, and endlessly inventive. These albums blend pop sensibility with an adventurous, exploratory streak, rewarding both longtime Television fans and listeners discovering his work for the first time.
