The Replacements built an entire career out of rebelling, reacting and kicking against the pricks. Crucially, though, it would be Hootenanny that freed the band from its early punk trappings and set them loose. Even though they’d assimilated a variety of genres on the record, Westerberg would note proudly that Hootenanny was “the first album that sounds just like us.
