Purdy is the fourth album on Stones Throw from Los Angeles native The Koreatown Oddity, following the breakout Little Dominiques Nosebleed and the diaristic ISTHISFORREAL?. It's an avant-garde rap record that reads like a journal, covering grocery store trips, daydreams about his daughters' futures, and the banality of oppression. It paints a full portrait of Dominique Purdy the man and The Koreatown Oddity the artist.
Here he balances fatherhood and partnership with the boundless confidence of a child's imagination, soundtracking a knight's first battle, a carefully tended lawn, and the question of whether anyone means "have a great weekend." He keeps up a stream of wisecracks, bends words into unusual enjambments, and finds humor and heart in the everyday. Guests like Gary Wilson and Trenttruce add to a record that is absurd, personal, and distinctly his own.
