Low Budget is the eighteenth studio album by the Kinks, released in 1979 on Arista Records. A sharp turn toward hard rock and arena-ready sounds, it proved to be one of the band's most commercially successful efforts and played a major role in reviving their popularity in the United States. It also marked the debut of bassist Jim Rodford, who would go on to remain with the group for the rest of their career.
Anchored by Ray Davies' characteristically witty songwriting, Low Budget tackles themes of economic anxiety and everyday life with the clever, sardonic humor the Kinks were known for. The album balances punchy, energetic rock tracks with more melodic moments, showcasing the band's ability to adapt to the changing musical landscape of the late 1970s without losing their distinctive voice.
