Recorded in Brooklyn in the spring of 2018, Laughing In My Sleep is the work of Paco Cathcart performing as The Cradle, released on NNA Tapes in 2020. Drawing from an eclectic range of influences — including medieval melodies, Éthiopiques-inspired polyrhythms, and avant-garde folk — Cathcart weaves together a sound that is intimate yet unpredictable, anchored by his fragile voice and hypnotic acoustic guitar.
The album features short, tightly crafted songs that can shift without warning from hushed acoustic passages into bursts of brittle noise, sweet harmonies, and warbling horns. Recorded across four-track sessions and Voice Memos, the raw, unpolished aesthetic only adds to its charm, making Laughing In My Sleep widely regarded as some of Cathcart's strongest and most direct songwriting to date. The record comes with a printed inner sleeve.
