Galashiels is a collection of mid-1980s recordings from The Catburgers, the Scottish band, brought to light through Slumberland Records. The songs are rooted in jangly, melodic indie pop and carry a post-punk edge, which makes this a welcome addition to the band's catalog.
The songwriting is what stands out across the record, with tunes like "I've Got a Friend" and "Summer of Love" showing the band's natural gift for melody. The mood grows darker toward the back end, reflecting their post-punk roots and giving the album a satisfying emotional range. Fans of classic UK indie pop will find a lot to love here.
