Thank God for Mental Illness is a 1996 album from The Brian Jonestown Massacre, the psychedelic rock band led by Anton Newcombe. It came during a prolific stretch for the group and shows a looser, more acoustic-leaning side of their sound. The band later gained wider recognition through the documentary Dig!, which brought new listeners to their earlier work.
The music blends folk, blues, and psychedelia, with a loose, woozy atmosphere and a vintage feel. Newcombe's songwriting mixes jangling guitars, hazy melodies, and a restless, experimental spirit. It's an inviting entry point for fans of 1960s-inspired rock, and a rewarding listen for anyone exploring the band's deep catalog.
