Limited 180 gram audiophile vinyl LP repressing of this classic album by the rock/roots icons. Stage Fright was The Band's third album, originally released in 1970. It included dense arrangements, penetrating guitar and keyboards and deep drums and bass. The album includes standouts "The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show" and "The Shape I'm In." The Band was a Canadian-American roots rock group, originally consisting of Rick Danko (bass guitar, double bass, fiddle, trombone, vocals), Levon Helm (drums, mandolin, vocals), Garth Hudson (keyboards, saxophones, trumpet), Richard Manuel (piano, baritone, drums, vocals) and Robbie Robertson (guitar, percussion, vocals).
Stage Fright was a reaction to a level of adulation that the Band's members were unprepared for. It was conceived as a lighter, less serious, more rock & roll type of album. The final product ended up somewhat darker, as the Band themselves were going through a number of changes. "The Shape I'm In" and "Stage Fright" tell the story well. Some of the original feeling manifests itself in romps such as "Strawberry Wine" and "The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show." ~ Rob Bowman
