No Bad Memories is the fourth album from The Avalanches, the Australian sample-based group best known for turning countless fragments of other records into something dreamlike and new. Inspired by the magical and unsettling ways advertising, technology, and pop culture become woven into our memories, it's their most experimental work yet.
Sprawling across 31 tracks, the album mixes full-fledged songs with atmospheric sound-collage interludes that give it a drifting, concept-driven shape. Highlights include the giddy "Every Single Weekend," which pairs a children's choir with a Gilberto Gil melody, and "One More Fantasy," which sets a Kraftwerk-style loop beneath a soaring vocal from Carly Simon. Quirky, playful, and a little jumbled in the best way, it rewards listeners who like to get lost in a record.
