Metaluna is the 1981 album from Supersempfft, a German electronic outfit from Hessen whose sound sits somewhere between synthpop, space disco, and quirky art-rock. Originally released on the Wunderwerke label, it has since won a devoted following among collectors of overlooked early-'80s electronic music, and it has earned an enthusiastic audience of new listeners decades later.
The music is playful and futuristic, with bright synthesizers, buoyant rhythms, and a stargazing, sci-fi sense of fun running through it. Its pop hooks sound surprisingly fresh, and tracks like "I See Stars" have been praised for sounding as though they could have been made yesterday. It's a vivid, idiosyncratic record for anyone who loves vintage synths, offbeat pop, and dancefloor-ready cosmic escapism.
