This new installment of Soul Jazz Records’ ground-breaking Deutsche Elektronische Musik series, described as “a near-definitive guide to some of the world’s most extraordinary music” (The Guardian), features classic German electronic and Krautrock groups from the 1970s and 80s—such as Can, Amon Düül II, Harmonia, Conrad Schnitzler, Agitation Free, and Roedelius—alongside lesser-known artists like Dzyan, Klaus Weiss, and Gruppe Between. Highlights include rare tracks such as Kalacakra’s “Nearby Shiras,” from their super-rare 1972 concept album Crawling to Lhasa.
This compilation offers a wealth of German electronic experimentalism, including seminal pioneers Harmonia and avant-garde visionary Conrad Schnitzler, as well as synthetic innovators like Klaus Weiss, Deutsche Wertarbeit, E.M.A.K., and Günter Schickert. The collection also showcases heavy and progressive cosmic rock groups such as Dzyan, Virus, and the Turkish/German tripped-out sound of Alex’s “Patella Black,” produced by Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit.
