Tortured genius in transition

Full disclosure: I got this record from a different seller. I will advocate for Jason Molina whenever and wherever though. This was intended to be the first album for Magnolia Electric Co. rather than the last Songs: Ohia album, but the label misunderstood the message Molina had sent them. As a result we hear drastically different, heavier, more rock oriented sound on this album than the earlier subdued folk of Songs: Ohia. The emotional darkness is still there, but it has great agency than Molina's earlier work. Some of the songs go on a bit too long, but each track is quality and worth while. Vinyl gives Molina's songs a deeper cleaner brighter sound vs. CD or digital formats, so it is easy to really immerse yourself in this album. This includes a bonus disk with demo versions ofmany of these tracks as well as other albums, including the brilliant song The Big Game is Everynight.
