Former Sun City Girls guitarist Sir Richard Bishop ventured to Morocco in June 2014, where he self-recorded Tangier Sessions in the exotic port city that gives the album its name. Armed with a new guitar he'd picked up in Switzerland, Bishop let the atmospheric surroundings of Tangier inspire a collection of instrumental compositions that seamlessly blend his experimental rock background with North African musical influences.
The resulting album showcases Bishop's ability to channel the haunting melodies reminiscent of the oud and incorporate traces of desert blues into his distinctive guitar work.
