Elektrac is the second full-length release from Shobaleader One, the live band project led by Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson), arriving on Warp Records in 2017. Rather than offering new material, it reimagines eleven tracks from his back catalogue, translating studio-built electronic works into the work of a real band.
The result blends electronic, jazz-fusion, funk, and rock, with playing that stays relentlessly fast and intricate, sometimes sounding almost too precise to be performed by humans. It's a high-energy reinterpretation that shows a different side of Squarepusher's catalog, and one that should appeal to fans of virtuosic, genre-bending music.
