BBE Music's celebrated J Jazz Masterclass series presents its 20th release with Free Fight, the debut album from Japanese saxophonist and composer Sachi Hayasaka, recorded in Tokyo in November 1987 and January 1988. Originally released on the private label Mobys in 1988, this super rare album announced Hayasaka as an essential voice in Japanese jazz — one that went on to record for acclaimed labels including Three Blind Mice, Kitty, and European imprint Enja.
Now available for the first time in over 35 years, Free Fight has been remastered and presented in a gatefold sleeve complete with an obi strip, translated sleeve notes, and newly commissioned liner notes. The music remains as fresh and vital as ever, a powerful testament to Hayasaka's skill as both a performer and composer, and an opportunity for a whole new generation of jazz listeners to discover one of Japan's most laudable musical talents.
