Originally released in 1982, Signals finds Rush at a turning point, as Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart folded synthesizers more prominently into their progressive rock sound. It was the band's last collaboration with producer Terry Brown, who had worked with them since 1975's Fly by Night, and it closed a significant chapter in their catalog.
The album pairs sleek, synth-driven textures with the band's dazzling musicianship and Peart's thoughtful lyrics about suburban restlessness, technology, and growing up. "Subdivisions" has remained a staple of Rush's live shows, while "The Analog Kid," "Chemistry," and "Digital Man" show the trio's knack for blending new wave influences with complex, powerful rock.
