Released in 1976, Ojah Awake stands as a testament to Osibisa's enduring ability to blend Afrobeat rhythms with rock, jazz, and funk influences into a vibrant, cross-cultural sound. The Ghana-rooted band had already made a significant mark on the early 1970s world music scene, and this album finds them maintaining that spirit with energy and groove.
Tracks like the infectious title cut and "Sakabo" showcase Osibisa at their most compelling, weaving together percussive intensity with melodic warmth in the way that first earned them acclaim on the global stage. The album reflects the band's signature ability to bridge African musical traditions with Western styles, creating a sound that feels both rooted and expansive.
