Producers: Pat Metheny, David Bowie.
Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays are best known for their originality in jazz. Blending midwestern folk with a touch of pop, and a heavy dose of jazz roots, the guitarist and pianist, respectively, changed the course of jazz history. On THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN, the soundtrack to the 1985 John Schlesinger film, these two jazz stars prove that their artistry is higher than most, if not all, of their imitators.
Metheny and Mays have a natural inclination towards mood music. Their compositions are ethereal and cosmic, programmatic and colorful. Haunting melodies daub their musical canvases, and jazz harmonies complement their always highly arranged opuses. Highlights on THE FALCON AND THE SNOWMAN include a one time only performance between the Pat Metheny Group and pop singer, David Bowie. Also, the CD opens with a choir singing an exquisite version of Psalm 121 set to music. Finally, on "The Falcon," we hear Pedro Aznar, the brilliant Argentinean singer, glide effortlessly over a wash of musical waves.
