Medium Build, the project of singer-songwriter Nick Carpenter, arrives with King of Having Fun, a 2026 release on Island Records that showcases his ability to weave together alternative, folk, and Americana into something distinctly his own. Written during the heat of summer and recorded live in-studio alongside close friends and collaborators, the album carries an organic warmth and spontaneity that feels both intimate and expansive across its 14 tracks.
At its heart, King of Having Fun is a deeply personal record, tracing the emotional distance between childhood wonder and the complexities of adult life — exploring themes of friendship, freedom, and the search for meaning. The album moves fluidly between moods, balancing reflective ballads with more urgent, rock-tinged moments like "Armor," demonstrating Carpenter's gift for crafting songs that feel cohesive yet full of dynamic range.
