Command For Blood, Command For War collects early rehearsal recordings from the formative years of Mayhem, the Norwegian band whose name is bound up with the origins of black metal. It captures them before the landmark records that made their reputation, in a raw and unpolished state.
The recordings include early versions of songs such as "Pure Fucking Armageddon" and "Carnage," which stayed in Mayhem's live set for years, along with a few covers. The sound is abrasive and fast, with the blunt energy of a young band working out its identity in a rehearsal room. For fans of extreme metal, it is a look at the roots of one of the genre's most influential groups.
