Before shortening the band name to simply Marilyn Manson, a group of Fort Lauderdale, Florida college students started making music in the late '80s as Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids. Early music from this version of the band was far more in line with the druggy backwoods psychedelia of the Butthole Surfers or the club-friendly goth of Alien Sex Fiend or My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult than the horror show pop-metal sounds that would follow. Dancing with the Antichrist compiles ten tracks from the early days of the band, recorded between 1991-1992 and remixed by a group known as the Untraceable some years later. Psychotic club tracks like "My Monkey" (and other tunes that would appear in different versions on early albums like Portrait of an American Family) don't really fall in line with the pure evil style the band would later adopt, but still offer a perspective on the band's roots for super-fans
