L'Orange's latest release, The Orchid Days, isn't an album so much as it's a movement of thought and theme through sound. Through previous outputs, we've come to know L'Orange as a painter who only paints in black, mixing shades of pulsing beats, young gun MC's, and samples from a bygone era into the lounge music of the soul.
Though still keeping well within the frames of his previous oeuvre, The Orchid Days echoes with the harbingers of inevitable change. We're introduced to the sultry tones of Erica Lane, a chanteuse who channels Billie Holiday, L'Orange's longtime muse, while still claiming her tone as her own.
Through The Orchid Days, L'Orange is telling a story, your story. It starts in 'second person' after all. Though maybe he's telling his story, only with you as the medium in mind, through your ears and your consciousness.
