Rudolf Langer (formerly of Tyndall) and Peter Preuß formed Lapre as a vehicle for sonic experimentation in mid-1980s Berlin, yet their work remained largely hidden from the wider world during their active years — limited to a solitary single and a handful of extremely scarce cassette releases. Bureau B's Banzai: Elektronische Musik Aus Berlin 1985/87 serves as the second archival collection of Lapre recordings, following the 2018 retrospective Auferstehung, and shines a long-overdue light on the duo's creative output from 1985 to 1987.
The six instrumental tracks on Banzai showcase Lapre's talent for crafting atmospheric, flowing synthesizer compositions that draw more from early ambient music than conventional pop — melodic, spacious, and richly textured. The album's centrepiece, "Banzai I," first appeared on a 1987 Berlin electronic sampler where it earned a devoted cult following, and here it is joined by five previously unreleased recordings from the Lapre archives, making this an essential listen for fans of classic German electronic and kosmische music.
