Released in 2019 on El Paraiso Records, Windborne is a captivating entry in the catalog of Norwegian trio Kanaan, a band celebrated for their ability to blur the lines between psychedelic rock, krautrock, and jazz-influenced improvisation. The album showcases the group at a creative peak, delivering a sound that is both expansive and deeply rhythmic.
Across its runtime, Windborne weaves together motorik grooves, melodic passages reminiscent of classic kosmische artists like Tangerine Dream, and funk-driven explorations that give the bass room to roam freely. Kanaan demonstrate a rare ability to shift between meditative calm and propulsive energy, making this a rewarding listen for fans of adventurous, instrumental-leaning rock.
