Director Marc Webb tapped Oscar-winning composer James Horner for his 2012 reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, and while Horner's take on the beloved Marvel web-slinger may lack the pulsating gravitas that drove Danny Elfman's work on the 2002, Sam Raimi-directed version, it still manages to evoke many of the same feelings. Instead of focusing on the films' myriad action set pieces, Horner spends the majority of the score building off of the films' more human elements. Measured, quietly grand, and at times a little old-fashioned, What The Amazing Spider-Man lacks in audaciousness, it more than makes up for in heart. ~ James Christopher Monger
