Originally released in 1998, Musical Chairs is the third album from Hootie & The Blowfish, rounding out a successful run of 1990s records for the South Carolina band. It marked a shift toward a rootsier, more reflective sound, moving away from the polished radio rock that made them famous.
The album expands the band's arrangements with banjos, violins, and occasional strings and horns, giving their warm, melodic songwriting a more textured backdrop.
