Red Rose For Gregory is a 1988 album from Gregory Isaacs, the Jamaican singer long celebrated as the "Cool Ruler" for his smooth, unhurried delivery. Recorded and mixed at Music Works Recording Studio in Kingston, it finds him at the height of his powers, blending lovers rock with roots reggae. It includes the hit "Rumours."
Isaacs's voice is the centerpiece here, tender and world-weary, riding warm, melodic rhythms that never feel rushed. Themes of romance, heartache, and devotion run through the album, supported by skilled Jamaican musicians and harmony vocals that add to its soulful feel. It's a fine entry point for newcomers and a rewarding listen for longtime fans of one of reggae's most distinctive vocalists.
