Recorded on July 6, 1964 at the legendary Van Gelder Studio, Some Other Stuff finds trombonist Grachan Moncur III pushing boldly into avant-garde territory alongside an extraordinary ensemble: Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Cecil McBee, and Tony Williams. Following his acclaimed debut Evolution, Moncur ventured even deeper into experimental jazz with this set of original compositions that stands as one of the era's most adventurous Blue Note recordings.
The album's originals — including the freeform "Gnostic," the swinging "Thandiwa," the rhythmically playful "The Twins," and the drum showcase "Nomadic" — showcase Moncur's singular compositional voice and the stunning interplay of his all-star bandmates. This Blue Note Tone Poet Edition was cut directly from the original analog tapes, preserving the full depth and warmth of the 1964 session for a truly faithful listening experience.
