Formed in South London in 1977, Girlschool were one of the toughest heavy metal bands on the U.K. rock scene of the '70s and '80s, anticipating the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement with their no-quarter attack and collaborating with the mighty Mot?rhead for a hit version of "Please Don't Touch." But what set Girlschool apart from most bands on the scene was the fact they were all female; at a time when a woman playing heavy guitar was still a novelty, Girlschool proved night after night that they could rock as hard as any band in the U.K., regardless of gender. Glasgow 1982 is an archival recording of Girlschool tearing through their set for an enthusiastic Scottish audience, before they evolved into a more glam-influenced act in hopes of reaching a larger audience in the United States. Glasgow 1982 includes the songs "Screaming Blue Murder," "Race with the Devil," "Hit and Run," "Nothing to Lose," and a hard-hitting cover of the Rolling Stones' "Live with Me." ~ Mark Deming
