Frankie Rose's Hila, released in 2019 on Night School Records, marks a bold evolution in her sound, steering into darker, more atmospheric territory. Drawing comparisons to Bowie's Low and the brooding post-punk of The Cure, the album is a hypnotic journey through dream pop, new wave, and synth-driven moods that feel equally cinematic and deeply personal.
Across its runtime, Hila blossoms with towering synthetic textures, pounding industrial rhythms, and Rose's effortlessly soaring vocals — a combination that rewards listeners who love music that lives in the shadows. Tracks like "Manifest" deliver post-punk intensity while moments like "Best Of Times" shimmer with saxophone-laced atmospherics, showcasing Rose's remarkable ability to craft wide-screen, emotionally resonant soundscapes.
