Na Poi’ was judged pornographic by Nigerian state radio, which banned its presenters from playing it, the title track describes in frank, and some might say frankly tedious, detail the mechanics of how a man should have sex with a woman. Shock value aside, it is one of Fela’s least interesting lyrics - few things, surely, are as boring as watching other people have sex, but listening to other people describing it is one of them. But, hey, Na Poi sold well, was a floor filler and raised Fela’s profile.
