Springfield's splendidly titled third American release is, like many mid '60s albums, a bit patchy, with two songs--typically soulful covers of the Supremes "When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes" and Lesley Gore's proto-feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me"--recycled from her first album.
The new songs vary confusingly between gritty r&b and fluffy teen pop, but Springfield's honeyed vocals are never less than splendid,, and there are a couple of genuine stunners like the album's hit single, "Losing You" (a definitive piece of Brit soul by her former partner Tom Springfield). There are also three bonus tracks, the last of which, Aretha Franklin's "Don't Let Me Lose This Dream," is a clear indication of where Springfield's music was headed.
