Volume 3 & 4 gathers two chapters from Dur-Dur Band, the Somali group that rose from the hotel circuit of 1980s Mogadishu. Recorded in 1988 and 1989, these albums find the sprawling ensemble tightening its sound in the studio, with sharper hooks, firmer rhythms and grooves that stay locked in.
Dur-Dur Band built its sound by blending Somali melodies with disco, funk, jazz, soul and reggae, and the music carries the energy and optimism of its time and place. Songs like "Doobnimadey" and "Liibaanta" show the band's craft, pairing traditional chants and Somali-language storytelling with a danceable, groove-driven backbone. It is a vivid part of the Dur-Dur story and a rewarding listen for fans of African funk and world music.
