Alive As You Are is the 2010 release from Los Angeles rock band Darker My Love, issued on Dangerbird Records. Recorded at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco, it follows the full-throttle psychedelic assault of their earlier records with a more melodic, song-focused approach.
Jangly guitars and warm, vintage-minded pop writing run through the album, with echoes of The Lemonheads and Byrds-style folk rock. Moments of melancholy and wry reflection, like the post-wedding gloom of "Cry On Me Woman," give the record a more human, reflective side. It's a left turn in the band's catalog that rewards listeners who like their psych-tinged rock with a stronger pop heart.
