It is often argued that U.K. punk pioneers the Damned were the first English punk band to issue a record, beating spiky-haired contemporaries the Sex Pistols, among others, when it came to actually getting themselves into a studio. Pure Punk: 1977-1982 focuses on the steps that took the Damned into the studio to begin with, collecting mostly live recordings and a few unreleased demos from their earliest days. In addition to live versions of tracks like "Happy Talk" and "Idiot Box," Pure Punk includes early demos of Damned classics "Love Song" and "I Just Can't Be Happy Today." ~ Fred Thomas
