A true lost gem of the reggae canon, Close Encounters Of The Third World by Creation Rebel is a sublime blend of roots, vocal, and dubbed-out instrumental magic. Born from a remarkable trans-Atlantic collaboration, the album's rhythm tracks were laid down in London in 1978, with horns and vocals overdubbed at the legendary Channel One studio in Jamaica, before bandleader Crucial Tony returned to London where the tapes were mixed by a visiting Prince Jammy.
Originally released on the pre-On-U Sound label Hit Run, this carefully restored edition brings the album back after being unavailable for 45 years, featuring extended 12" discomix versions of "Beware" and "Natty Conscience Free," re-cut by Frank Merritt at The Carvery. New sleevenotes by reggae scholar David Katz tell the full story behind this fascinating chapter in the Creation Rebel catalogue, making this release a must for fans of classic roots reggae.
