Glasgow multi-instrumentalist and producer Liam Shortall returns as corto.alto with Some Small Fortune, his eagerly anticipated second album on Ninja Tune. Following his Mercury-nominated debut Bad with Names, Shortall pushes further into bold new territory, cementing his place as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary British jazz and electronic music.
Spanning 15 tracks, Some Small Fortune is an exhilarating genre-blurring journey that weaves together contemporary jazz, hip-hop, electronica, classical, soul, funk, pop, and indie into a cohesive yet endlessly surprising whole. With a cast of guest vocalists including Oscar Jerome, Jacob Alon, anaiis, Vector, and Terra Kin, the album brims with ideas at every turn — shifting moods and textures across tracks that balance delicate classical strings with glitchy electronic drums and frenetic rhythms, showcasing corto.alto's remarkable range and restless creative energy.
