Trappings of Sleep brings together Caroline Davis on alto saxophone, Grey McMurray on guitar, and Qasim Naqvi on drums and electronics for a deeply immersive trio meeting. Recorded in May 2025 and released on Red Hook Records, the label founded by former ECM producer Sun Chung, it is a distinctive addition to each artist's body of work.
The music moves between intimacy and intensity, with the trio exploring connection and the spaces between sound and silence. Davis's saxophone, McMurray's guitar, and Naqvi's drums and electronics blend into a textured, atmospheric world, with each phrase feeling like an intercepted confidence. It rewards close, patient listening for fans of contemporary and experimental jazz.
