C.R. Gillespie's Island of Women is a deeply personal sonic journey years in the making. Originally conceived in 2019 as a chamber project affiliated with Toronto's Music Gallery — an institutional hub for avant-garde music since the mid-70s — the album was derailed by the pandemic before Gillespie eventually transformed those early MIDI demos into a fully realized humanistic soundscape.

The result is a moving ten-track collection that carries a hazy, balmy quality its creator intentionally cultivated. Drawing on both modern classical foundations and electronic textures, Island of Women stands as a testament to patience and personal vision — making it a compelling addition to any collection of thoughtfully crafted, boundary-pushing music.
