Released in 2007 on Hyperdub, Untrue is the second album from the anonymous London producer Burial, and the follow-up to his self-titled debut. It stands as one of the defining electronic records of its decade, a haunting reimagining of dubstep and UK garage that traded dancefloor muscle for late-night atmosphere.
The album is built from shuffling, skittering rhythms, crackling textures, and fragments of pitched-up, ghostly vocals that drift through a rainy, nocturnal city. Its mood is melancholic yet strangely comforting, and it makes no concessions to trends or the mainstream. Burial's singular, uncompromising vision gives the music an emotional pull that has kept listeners returning for years.
