It was the fifth consecutive album to secure Britney Spears' debut at number one in the United States. More than 4 million copies of the album were sold worldwide.
The first single promoting the new material was the song "Womanizer," which immediately topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was the artist's first fastest-selling song since "...Baby One More Time." In 2009, Britney embarked on a promotional tour for the album "The Circus starring Britney Spears."
