After more than a decade of near-silence, Boards of Canada return with Inferno, their long-awaited 2026 album released through Warp Records. The Scottish electronic duo — comprised of brothers Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin — built a devoted following through a catalog defined by hazy nostalgia, hypnotic rhythms, and an uncanny ability to evoke memory and time. Inferno marks a major moment in their storied career and is sure to be essential listening for fans old and new.
True to the duo's signature style, Inferno weaves together organic textures, warped synthesizers, and deeply atmospheric soundscapes that feel both ancient and otherworldly. Track titles like "Prophecy At 1420 MHz," "Memory Death," and "The Word Becomes Flesh" hint at the cosmic and philosophical themes running through the record, suggesting a work of real depth and ambition. It is a brooding, immersive listen that rewards patience and close attention — exactly what longtime Boards of Canada devotees have come to expect.
