A collaboration between Berlin-based experimental outfit Automat (Jochen Arbeit, Achim Färber, and Georg Zeitblom) and Schneider TM (Dirk Dresselhaus), Bootleg is a fascinatingly unconventional entry in the electronic music landscape. Released in 2014 on the respected German label Bureau B, this record was born from a genuinely unique creative process that blurs the line between performance art and music production.
The concept behind Bootleg is as inventive as the sounds it contains — blank vinyl records were taped to the floor of Kunsthalle Düsseldorf during a live Automat concert, where the crowd danced on them throughout the show. The resulting scratched and noise-laden records were then used by Automat and Schneider TM as raw material, with the captured sounds processed and shaped into three distinct tracks, all recorded and produced in February 2014. It's a genuinely thought-provoking release for fans of experimental and electronic music who appreciate art that pushes boundaries.
