Trumpeter Lee Morgan's final recording in his initial stint with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers (and trombonist Curtis Fuller's first) is a curiously lackluster affair. Perhaps Morgan and pianist Bobby Timmons already knew that they would be departing soon. In any case, this set (which includes five standards and Fuller's "A La Mode") is only an average outing for this talented group; nice music but nothing that special. ~ Scott Yanow
