Written and recorded throughout 2016 in LA, following big-time touring runs with the likes of Weezer, Tegan and Sara, and Matt and Kim, the album came together after the five-piece band returned home and were forced to confront the day-to-day realities of everyday life. Frontman Van Pierszalowski sees Something More! #as both a gut-punch and a wake-up call to his younger self. And while lead single “Hiccups,” produced by Tim Pagnotta (Walk The Moon), sounds euphoric on first listen – all chant-along vocals, adolescent angst and rowdy riffs – it finds Pierszalowski bellowing “I ain’t got no regrets… all my f***-ups, all my hiccups, only brought me to you.” “I wanted to express that the f***-ups and the mistakes are a necessary part of the struggle to figure shit out. Don’t beat yourself up about it so damn much,” he says of the Pinkerton-inspired cut.

Following the trajectory set by 2015’s glossy What’s Real, WATERS ratchet up their arena rock appeal even higher on Something More!, the L.A. quintet’s second release for Vagrant Records. Initially formed in Norway by singer/guitarist Van Pierszalowski, WATERS eventually headed to California, where they made a bid for pop radio ascendancy with hooky alt-rock jams that were deceptively smarter than they let on. With seemingly nowhere to go but bigger and brighter, the band enlisted producer Tim Pagnotta to helm this set of riffy singalongs that pull from a myriad of ’80s and ’90s rock radio influences, with occasional shades of pop-punk angst. Working in a bittersweet lyrical tone that lives between heartbreak and hope, Pierszalowski manages to pull off some legitimately fist-pumping earworms with songs like the rousing “Hiccups” and “Molly Is a Babe,” each an infectious rock anthem designed to be played loudly and often. [Something More! was also released in a vinyl LP edition with a digital download card.]
