The album is a departure from the Synth Pop style that first brought the band acclaim on their major label debut, Oracular Spectacular, and features a more progressive, guitar-driven sound. Unlike MGMT’s platinum-selling debut Oracular Spectacular, which had three chart-topping hits (“Time to Pretend,” “Electric Feel,” and “Kids”), the duo’s follow-up is designed to be a congruent album of psychedelic, non-single-oriented material.
